An amazing book! |
Dearest readers,
Oh my gosh! I have been literally dying to write this post! Ok, so if you don't know already, I'm an extremely picky reader. Only specific books interest me and even then, if they don't grab me by the second page, I throw it away. But Stolen was just amazing! I was so captivated by the storyline, I was sitting in bed reading this book for three hours nonstop!
Synopsis: Gemma is from London, and while in transit with her parents in the airport in Bangkok a young man buys her a coffee. He drugs it, and the next coherent thought she has is when she wakes up some days later. In the desert. In Australia. Her captor, Ty, believes he is saving her. He has planned a whole new existence for the two of them.
Through the course of the book we see how complex and frightening Stockholm Syndrome is. In the end, I could not stop crying! Ty was in a way evil but he did truly love Gemma and did the right thing by letting her go in the end. Even though he had stopped her from escaping many times, when her life was on the line, he knew what to do. He wasn't so obsessed with her that he still clung onto her when she might die. Ty was an abductor and yes, what he did was wrong but when you learn of his backstory and his actions towards Gemma, you'll learn to love him. He wasn't as bad as I thought he was and I was beginning to warm up to him before the book ended. Yes, Stockholm Syndrome is scary!
The mixed feelings and emotions I experienced when I closed the book was so overwhelming, I just wanted to sit there and think. I couldn't bring myself to do anything else! What I found most intriging and realistic about this book is that there is really no real villian. Gemma's parents could have been seen as the villans if you interpreted the book an entirely different way. With this in mind, you realize how complicated the characters and the story actually is. Since Gemma was only 16, and everything is in her point of view, the story is simplified in a way. I suppose if it were an adult, the descriptions and feelings would have been much more complicated.
I also love how the book is told in the form of a letter from Gemma to Ty. I actually didn't pick this up until the very end when Gemma signs her name off. It was then it hit me. The entire book was a letter to Ty.
Story: 9/10
Characters: 9/10
Overall: 9/10
I would most definitely recommend people to read this book!
