RIP Latte: 2007-2012

Dearest readers,

It's with great sadness that I announce my beloved Latte's passing. It's strange watching a pet you owned for years suddenly die. It's almost surreal. You'd think I should be use to it by now, Truffles passed away recently as well but it still breaks my heart.

I'd like to think Latte isn't really dead. She's been granted an eternal sleep by the gods. But it does sadden me that I will never see her beloved face again. We've shared a lot together and she was the sweetest guinea pig you could ever ask for. She was truly one of a kind.

She was constantly doing things to please people: learning new tricks, following us around constantly and going into it's cage when it's 4'o'clock sharp. She never failed to do that, even until her death. She died of URI. She did a very good job masking the symptoms, and by the time we had noticed, it was too late. She probably knew she was going to die because she died behind her cage. She didn't want us to see her.

Sometimes I wish I could've been a better owner. I couldn't have asked anymore from Latte but I'm disappointed in myself for a lot of things. Looking back now, she was a lonely piggie. When her cagemate died when she was 2, we never got her another buddy. She roamed our backyard everday, waiting by our front entrance door every 4 o'lock. It was truly the sweetest thing but she may have just wanted to hear someone talk. Someone to make a noise. But to think something as small as her could display such beautiful affection, really moves me.

I also believe Latte's passing was partially due to Oreo (although we don't blame him!) Ever since he arrived, she started acting cold towards us. It was very strange at first. Whenever we picked Oreo up or played with him. She'd stand nearby, almost watching us. Then she'd leave alone and we'd never see her again. She also began to grow old very fast. My parents think it's because when she saw how young Oreo was, she realized her time was up. Within a week of getting Oreo, she started growing sick really fast. We cured her first round of sickness with antibotics. I didn't expect her to die so early.

Latte lived a long and peaceful life with us. Living until the ripe old age of 5. Her passing was sad, but in a way, I'm comforted knowing she's in a much happier place now, with Truffles. We buried her in her favourite sleeping spot and along with it, a tomatoe. Her favourite fruit.

Latte--thank you for the wonderful memories you have given me. Thank you for growing up with me during my childhood. Thank you for listening to me when no one else would. You are a star. Don't ever forget it.

my beautiful little girl :)

Keep smiling no matter what

RIP Latte.

  1. I'm soooo sorry about Latte. She's a beautiful guinea pig and a very clever one too. I hope your feeling better. It's been a while since you've made a post :(

But I can understand your pain. I lost my guinea pig Popcorn a month ago and it was really sad for me to get over. I'm still crying over him when I see his photos or think of his favourite foods.

But death is a part of life and i'm sure Popcorn and Latte are really happy in heaven.

    Sending you love,

    Bethany

  3. She's a gorgeous little piggie. I'm really sorry for your loss though. She seemed like a wonderful pet. It's hard losing something you love. It becomes worse the bigger the pet gets. Like dogs for example. I lost mojo, my 13 year old dog a year ago and I still tear up when I think of him.

  7. I had a pig that looked just like Latte. exccept she had black feet and black ears too. it can be really hearbreaking when u lose a pet but since you've gotten three new piggies, I think they'll help you recover through her loss.

  8. Heres a poem for you Latte :)

It takes us back to brighter years,
    to happier sunlit days
    and to precious moments
that will be with us always.
    And these fond recollections
    are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.

There is a bridge of memories
    from earth to Heaven above...
It keeps our dear ones near us

It's the bridge that we call love.

    1. You clearly understand nothing about owning pets. it can be a goldfish or even a turtle but once you've had it for many years, you have a connection with them.

For somebody like you, i doubt you'd understand so i'm not going to even bother explaining anymore.

  10. guinea pigs are such cute, small and loving creatures and i absolutely understand your loss and pain. they can be the best of companions and it's a shame you lost her to URI :(
She's probably smiling at you from heaven right now though so don't worry. Also igore the comment before me by 'Anonymous' i thought that was rather rude. A pets a pet, no matter how small or big.
